While this isn’t something you need to worry about this time of the year, when temperatures warm up again it’s certainly something to be aware of. The thing is, these lines can leak, and that’s even more likely with an improperly installed ductless system. When water starts developing between the back of the air handler and the wall, the wall material weakens until it eventually causes the air handler to rip away from the wall (and likely fall off).

Broken Air Handlers
There’s some good news with this one, actually. If a single air handler fails or breaks down due to an isolated problem, the remaining air handlers throughout the home won’t be affected. The only part of your home that will lose heating (or cooling) is the section with that particular air handler.
Of course, you’ll still need to call for repairs ASAP. But fortunately, you don’t need to worry about the whole home losing out on conditioned air while you wait for a repair technician to show up.
Refrigerant Leaks
Refrigerant leaks are not specifically unique to ductless systems—they can occur with any air conditioner or heat pump system. However, the risk and urgency is higher with a ductless system, due to the fact that the refrigerant lines run through the walls of your home.
A refrigerant leak behind an air handler can weaken your wall and lead to property damage, plus being exposed to refrigerant in this way can be unhealthy.
